The coach of the Indonesian U-20 National Team (Timnas), Indra Sjafri, admitted that he needed new ammunition, including from players of descent to face the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup. Therefore, he has submitted a number of players of descent to PSSI to be naturalized, including Indra Sjafri will talk to Welber Jardim who was absent from the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup Qualification.
The Garuda Nusantara squad - the nickname for the Indonesian U-20 National Team - qualified for the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup with the status of Group F champions. The youth Asian football party will take place in China, on February 6-23, 2025.
To face the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Indra Sjafri said he would try to have further communication with Welber Halim Jardim so that he could strengthen the Indonesian U-20 National Team. The reason is, Welber did not strengthen the Indonesian U-20 National Team in the U-20 Asian Cup Qualification round even though he was included in the team scheme.
"We will try to talk again with Welber Jardim," said Indra Sjafri in Jakarta, quoted Monday (30/9/2024).
The coach who also serves as the Technical Director of PSSI said that the Indonesian U-20 National Team does need additional players to appear in the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup. So, he will go on a guerrilla search for additional players.
"Maybe we need a player with more quality, whether he is of Chinese descent or not," continued Indra Sjafri.
Indra Sjafri said that for additional players of descent, there are currently three names whose files are being processed. The three players are Tim Gypens, Dion Markx, and Kaya Symons.
"Wait for the other 3 players of descent. Of course PSSI will follow up administratively and hopefully what we have proposed can be realized quickly," he concluded.
